A logo is a symbol that is used to identify an organization. I am happy to announce that we have now launched our new logo for St. Thomas More Parish. Our new cross and steeple are balanced with the initials STM with the “T” conveying several layers of meaning. In addition to being a cross it substitutes as a two edged sword traditionally representing the word of God. God’s word cuts both ways; it saves and it judges. The circle background calls to mind the Eucharist but it also represents eternity where there is no beginning or end. This also calls to mind the interior architecture of the church which repeatedly uses circular themes.
The most important color of the logo is red. Since St. Thomas More was a martyr, his blood like the blood of Christ is poured out for the sake of others. Dying for what we believe in is an important virtue to remember. The shade of the red is paired with the same gold color that is found in school logo with a cross and lion on a shield. The particular share of green is a complimentary color to the red and dynamically calls to mind the same complementary color harmony found in the church’s interior.
Our new website has been waiting for our new logo. Now that it is here, the website will take on a new look as it too launched in the near future. Perhaps when we see out new logo we can identify with the symbolism of its design. Let out parish of St. Thomas More continue to bring the word of God to a world that need to hear good news.
