Based on a true story,
When a journalist (Jim Caviezel) is stranded in a remote village, a woman named Zahra (Shohreh Aghdashloo) defies the leaders and takes a bold chance to reveal what the villagers will stop at nothing to keep hidden. Thus begins the remarkable account of what happened to Soraya (Mozhan Marnò), a kind, spirited, and honorable woman whose bad marriage leads her cruel, divorce-seeking husband to conspire against her, trumping up charges of infidelity, which carry an unimaginable penalty. Moving through a minefield of scheming, lies and deceit, Soraya and Zahra will attempt to prove Soraya's innocence in a legal system stacked against her. But when all else fails, Zahra will risk everything to use the sole weapon she has left – her fearless, passionate voice that can share Soraya's story with a shocked world.
On May 20th 2009 Landmark Theater had a screening of this highly emotional story. It is truly a story of the struggles of man when lording over his domain. The position of power can tend to lean towards corruption and injustice in a self serving world, yes even in the name of God. It is so typical of man to bend his view of God and re-image Him in our own vision of who he is and how we can manipulate God's Law to serve our own selfish needs. In the end, in this world that God created, He shall see justice and will prevail. The one and only "I AM". You too can be part of this un-veiling of the truth, and witness this tragic story. This is a must see movie that stirs a passion from deep within. It will be in Theaters June 26th 2009.
The journalist, Freidoune Sahebjam, is reluctant, at first, to listen to Zahra’s tale. After all, the men in the town say that she is crazy. Zahra admits that a woman’s testimony counts for nothing in Iran. She is clearly a malcontent, violating Iranian law by smoking on her patio. But ultimately he chooses to listen to her, and she reveals to him a shocking tale that turned into a best-selling book and unveiled to all the world the difficulties faced by women in Iran. Had he chosen to refuse to listen, had he become angry at her insistence and stormed off, he would have missed it all.
