Introduction

1. “SPE SALVI facti sumus”—in hope we were saved, says Saint Paul to the Romans, and likewise to us (Rom 8:24). According to the Christian faith, “redemption”—salvation—is not simply a given. Redemption is offered to us in the sense that we have been given hope, trustworthy hope, by virtue of which we can face our present: the present, even if it is arduous, can be lived and accepted if it leads towards a goal, if we can be sure of this goal, and if this goal is great enough to justify the effort of the journey. Now the question immediately arises: what sort of hope could ever justify the statement that, on the basis of that hope and simply because it exists, we are redeemed? And what sort of certainty is involved here?

Says God Is Hope of the World

VATICAN CITY, DEC. 2, 2007 (Zenit.org).- The world needs God, otherwise it remains without hope, said Benedict XVI when he summarized the central message of his encyclical "Spe Salvi."

The Pope said this today before reciting the midday Angelus with those gathered in St. Peter's Square. He also spoke on the meaning of Advent, which begins today.

Advent, the Holy Father said, "is the propitious time to reawaken in our hearts the expectation of him 'who is, who was and who is coming.'"

Faith Saved In Hope SPE SALVI

Faith is the “substance” of things hoped for; the proof of things not seen. Saint Thomas Aquinas,4 using the terminology of the philosophical tradition to which he belonged, explains it as follows: faith is a habitus, that is, a stable disposition of the spirit, through which eternal life takes root in us and reason is led to consent to what it does not see.

Faith is not merely a personal reaching out towards things to come that are still totally absent: it gives us something. It gives us even now something of the reality we are waiting for, and this present reality constitutes for us a “proof” of the things that are still unseen. Faith draws the future into the present, so that it is no longer simply a “not yet”. The fact that this future exists changes the present; the present is touched by the future reality, and thus the things of the future spill over into those of the present and those of the present into those of the future.

Message, June 2, 2009 - Our Lady's apparitions to Mirjana Medjugorje

Medjugorje Message, June 25, 2009

“Dear children! Rejoice with me, convert in joy and give thanks to God for the gift of my presence among you. Pray that, in your hearts, God may be in the center of your life and with your life witness, little children, so that every creature may feel God’s love. Be my extended hands for every creature, so that it may draw closer to the God of love. I bless you with my motherly blessing. Thank you for having responded to my call.”

 

Our Lady speaks about the 10th Secret on 28th Anniversary

June 25th, 2009, began as a cool, sunny day in Medjugorje. As the village swelled with jubilant pilgrims celebrating the 28th anniversary of the apparitions, however, dark storm clouds began to form on the horizon. Soon, Medjugorje was being pelted with heavy rain, strong winds and lightning.

Our Lady graced Medjugorje with several messages for the anniversary, first appearing to Ivanka Ivankovic-Elez for her regular annual apparition. Ivanka had the apparition at home in the presence of her family. Ivanka said the following about her apparition today:

“Our Lady remained with me for 10 minutes and spoke to me of the tenth secret. Our Lady said: ‘Dear children, I call you to be apostles of peace. Peace, peace, peace.'"

Today's apparition was certainly interesting in that Our Lady spoke about the tenth secret. In fact, she has spoken to Ivanka about the secrets in many of her recent annual apparitions. A striking sequence stands out when one looks at the accounts of her most recent apparitions.

1. June 25, 2005 - Our Lady spoke to Ivanka about the 6th secret.

2. June 25, 2006 - Our Lady spoke to Ivanka about the 7th secret.

3. June 25, 2007 - Ivanka did not mention anything about secrets.

4. June 25, 2008 - Our Lady spoke to Ivanka about the 9th secret.

5. June 25, 2009 (Today) - Our Lady spoke to Ivanka about the 10th secret.

Nothing has been said by the parish or the visionaries as to whether or not any meaning can be derived from this sequence. Many people feel that the time of the secrets seems to be close at hand, including the Croatian priest who will release them, Fr. Petar.
